Your Heritage Album
|
| |
This Album or page theme is a great way of making a family tree come alive visually. Have you ever wondered what to do with the old photos of grand parents, great grandparents and other memorabilia. You only have one copy of it and all your kids would love to have them. Why not make some copies of the pictures and have different memorabilia in each album for each child or relative. This is a great way to spread they family history around to family and is bound to bring out some more family memories for more Heritage albums.

A common problem with heritage albums is a lack of photographs for a particular family member or branch of a family, but this is where research pays off. For example, you might find birth certificates or marriage licenses that you can substitute for photographs. Heritage albums often include other historical data relevant to the photograph's date and era. If you want to make a heritage album, interview family members who have insight into old photos and family stories. These interesting stories, set down in journaling entries, can help bring your family's history alive.

Old photos are often fragile and should be handled with care. Although I usually recommend double-sided tape for adhering photographs to an album, I don't for heritage memorabilia or old photos. Often there are notes on the back of old photos in your ancestor's own handwriting. Try using photo corners instead so that you can easily remove photos and look at these handwritten notes. Photo corners come in a variety of sizes and colors. If your old photos are badly discolored or torn, digital restoration services can scan and touch up your photos and reprint them on photographic paper.
